RAFE

RAFE - method of search of 'direct indicators of hydrocarbons', applied to forecasting presence of possible deposits of oil and gas in a geological environment.

At the present stage of development of the oil and gas seismic industry the fluid saturation forecast techniques became widely applied. These techniques are based upon delineation of anomalous areas of seismic record registered in the wave field and characterized by ultra-low and anomalously high values of the spectral property of the amplitude frequency spectrum. It is proved, including by means of experiments in laboratory conditions that at the registered wave field of seismic record there are abnormal low-frequency changes of the characteristic of a peak-frequency spectrum. Theoretical fundamentals of the technique are detailed in literature (seismic spectrum processing) citing numerous positive examples of its application during forecast of fluid saturation in various seismic and geological conditions of oil and gas bearing basins.

The basic purpose of the method presented to your attention is detection of a frequency resonance of a deposit of the hydrocarbons, arising at active influence on the geological environment at carrying out seismic work.

Technology RAFE, developed by experts of GeoScience Technology is designed to reveal anomalous zones within a dynamic spectrum of seismic signal, which may be conditioned by presence of oil and gas deposits in geological environment. Presence of hydrocarbon deposits within a registered wave field of reflected waves creates specific anomalous zones targeted by RAFE technology .

It is necessary to note, that in practice, detection of effect of a frequency resonance, basically it is used at registration of a passive field microseism with its subsequent processing. In some cases before registration of a field apply external influence on the geological environment, raising a deposit and achieving more expressed resonance effect. The similar approach at its all advantages has a number of lacks as means carrying out of additional field works and, in some cases does not allow to localize precisely a potential deposit on depth.

Technology RAFE has in the realization essential difference from all working methods at present. Its basic advantage consists that as working materials results of usual works 2D or 3D seismic are used.

The basic problem at the used approach is presence low-frequency superficial waves ( Loeve, Reley and other) with high peak factor, essentially distorting a researched range of record. Nevertheless, the mathematical device developed by our experts with success copes with differentiation of a regular low-frequency wave-noise from short-life abnormal change of the spectral package which has arisen at passage of a wave through a productive deposit.

What is RAFE? RAFE (Research Anomaly of Frequency Energy) is a method of search of 'direct indicators of hydrocarbons', applied for forecasting presence of possible deposits of oil and gas in a geological environment.

How works RAFE? Method RAFE applies to processing total seismic time sections. During mathematical processing is analysed low-frequency component of the registered signal in a range of 0-8 Hertz. Thus the characteristic frequency anomalies of a signal caused by passage of a seismic wave through productive horizon are detected.

What are results RAFE? Results RAFE - wave field of low-frequency components of a section in which presence of the abnormal displays dominating over the general background is possible. The specified anomalies are consequence of a resonance of the hydrocarbons caused by passage of seismic waves through productive horizon.

Results RAFE are presented in the form of a file of format SEGY which can be used in any system of interpretation available you. A color scale is used to show the intensity of anomalies in order to visualize anomalous zones

Advantages of method:

There is no necessity to conduct additional geophysical studies, for analysis RAFE results of usual seismic works 2D/3D are used. 

Analysis of RAFE processing results shows that there is a possibility to considerably differentiate and prioritize the presumed potential structural and non-structural fall-traps.

The Method allows to localize probable deposits of hydrocarbons with high accuracy, both on the area, and on time (depth).

Remember, that at use of technique RAFE observance of some requirements to initial data is necessary, namely:

use total time sections;

it is not recommended to use total sections which have been received with application of procedures of transformation of Radon or spectral balancing;

total sections should be as much as possible cleared from wave-noise for what it is recommended to use procedures of deconvolution and a low-frequency filtration with a transitive zone of the filter of 16-20 Hertz with suppression no more than 60 dB on an octave.

The maximal size of a loaded file should not exceed 30MB
